Compassionate Community = A "Connection Movement"

We are social beings, hard-wired to be there for each other. How do we know this? Because connecting to each other and helping out makes us feel good! We connect to each other with every door that's held open, with each smile that's freely given, and with the authentic presence that receives a story that is aching to be told. These acts of kindness build the health and happiness of our community like the sunlight contributes to the vitality of a garden.

Deva Nation seeks to connect resources and harness the goodness of our community. Imagine a place where all of us are engaged in connecting ourselves and each other to what matters most. A place where citizens, organizations, health systems, schools, faith communities, and businesses are connected and work as one. By building and strengthening these connections, we can create strong personal and community networks that will nurture our health and happiness now and unfold that same support for care and fulfillment at life's end.

To connect is to belong and when we belong, love happens. It is this true sense of connection and community belonging that will empower us with the understanding that caring for each other in times of loss and need is everyone's responsibility. We have all lost--or know someone who has lost--a job, a partner, a child, a country, or a dream. A compassionate community is the safety net that can catch and reconnect us to the sunlight of humanity that helps us to survive and grow through tough times.   --Mary Ann
